Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has mourned the death of Peoples Democratic Party National Vice Chairman for the South-South, Chief Daniel Osi Orbih, describing him as a close friend and committed political ally. Orbih died on Monday, August 31, 2026, with his family confirming his death in a statement issued on Tuesday.

Wike described the veteran Edo politician’s death as painful and a major loss to the state’s political community. He said Orbih was “a friend indeed” and described his passing as “the fall of one of the biggest trees in the political forest of Edo State,” adding that he would be greatly missed by his family, associates and political colleagues.

The FCT Minister extended his condolences to Orbih’s wife, Florence, his children, Winifred and Mildred, and other members of the family. He described the deceased as a great politician and a man of faith, while praying for the repose of his soul. Orbih was also a former Edo State PDP chairman and, in 2024, was appointed chairman of the Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.
