Nigeria’s Super Eagles return to action today as they face Guinea-Bissau in their second Group L match of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The match is scheduled for Tuesday, September 29, at the Estádio 24 de Setembro in Bissau, with kick-off set for 5:00pm Nigerian time. Both countries opened their qualifying campaigns with victories and currently have three points each. Guinea-Bissau lead the group on goal difference after defeating Tanzania 2–0, while Nigeria came from behind to beat Madagascar 2–1 in Uyo.
Nigeria’s opening victory featured goals from debutant George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor. Usor, who came on as a substitute, scored the winning goal and has now attracted attention ahead of the Guinea-Bissau clash. The LASK forward said he understands that expectations will be higher following his impressive debut.
Coach Eric Chelle is expected to rely on several established players, including Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, Samuel Chukwueze and Moses Simon.
Guinea-Bissau, meanwhile, will enter the match with confidence after their 2–0 away victory over Tanzania. Franculino Djú and Mama Baldé scored in that encounter, giving the Djurtus an early lead in Group L.
The two sides have already met in previous AFCON qualifying campaigns. Guinea-Bissau defeated Nigeria 1–0 in Abuja during the 2023 qualifiers, while Nigeria won the return fixture 1–0 in Bissau.
With both teams beginning the campaign with three points, Tuesday’s meeting is an early opportunity for either side to move to six points from two matches. Tanzania, as one of the 2027 AFCON co-hosts, already has an automatic place at the tournament, leaving Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau and Madagascar competing for the remaining qualifying position in Group L.
