The Federal Government has commissioned a 3-megawatt solar hybrid power project at Yakubu Gowon University in Abuja, as part of efforts to improve electricity supply for teaching, research and other activities on campus.

The solar installation is expected to provide an additional source of electricity for the university and reduce its dependence on conventional power sources. Reliable electricity remains an important requirement for universities, particularly for laboratories, information technology infrastructure, research activities and administrative operations.
The project forms part of the Federal Government’s broader push to increase the use of renewable energy in public institutions. Solar power has increasingly become an option for organisations seeking to reduce the impact of unreliable grid electricity and rising energy costs.
For a university environment, a more dependable electricity supply can support longer operating hours for facilities and improve the ability of students and researchers to use digital resources and specialised equipment.
