Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi has praised the Nigerian Army for establishing the 262 Tank Battalion in Gumel, describing the new military formation as a major boost to security across the state and Nigeria’s northern border communities. The commendation followed a State Executive Council meeting, where the government said the battalion would strengthen military operations and improve protection for residents living near the border with the Niger Republic.

According to the state government, the battalion will enhance rapid response to emerging security threats and reinforce ongoing efforts to combat cross-border crimes, banditry, smuggling and other criminal activities. Officials expressed confidence that the increased military presence would promote peace, restore public confidence and improve safety in affected communities.

The Jigawa government also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies through sustained collaboration and by providing an enabling environment for their operations. It added that the improved security architecture is expected to encourage investment, stimulate economic activities and drive sustainable development across the state’s northern corridor.
