The Oyo State Government has officially taken delivery of two Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft as part of its strategy to strengthen security across the state. The aircraft arrived at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan on Tuesday and are expected to enhance aerial surveillance, intelligence gathering and rapid response to security threats in Oyo and neighbouring areas. Governor Seyi Makinde was on hand to receive the aircraft.
According to the state’s Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, the aircraft had earlier arrived in Nigeria and underwent reassembly at the Nigerian Air Force’s hangar in Lagos before being delivered to Oyo. He said their arrival fulfils the government’s promise to bring the aircraft into the state before the end of July and will support security agencies, including the Amotekun Corps, in tackling kidnapping, banditry and other criminal activities.
The surveillance aircraft were approved for purchase in 2025 at a cost of about ₦7.76 billion as part of the state’s long-term investment in security infrastructure. They are expected to improve border monitoring, intelligence-led operations and coordinated responses to emerging security challenges, particularly along Oyo’s borders with Kwara State and the Republic of Benin.
