\n\nTunisia has parted ways with head coach Sabri Lamouchi following the team’s heavy defeat in their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Tunisian Football Association confirmed that Lamouchi’s contract was terminated by mutual agreement after the North African side suffered a 5-1 loss to Sweden in their Group F clash at the Estadio Monterrey in Guadalupe, Mexico.
The decision makes Lamouchi the first manager in World Cup history to be dismissed after just one match at the tournament.
Former Morocco and Saudi Arabia coach Herve Renard has been appointed as Tunisia’s new head coach and will lead the team for the remainder of the competition.
Lamouchi, who was appointed in January following the departure of Sami Trabelsi, managed only one win in five matches during his five-month tenure. Tunisia also endured disappointing warm-up results ahead of the World Cup, losing to Austria and Belgium.
Following the defeat to Sweden, Lamouchi described the result as “painful,” admitting that costly mistakes contributed to the heavy loss.
Tunisia will now look to revive its campaign under Renard when they face Japan and the Netherlands in their remaining Group F fixtures.
