A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Abuja has ordered the arrest of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, a factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), after he failed to appear in court for his arraignment. The presiding judge, Justice Peter Kekemeke, issued a bench warrant following repeated absences despite evidence that the defendant had been duly served with court summons. 
Turaki, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and former minister, is facing a one-count charge of allegedly providing false information to the police in a petition submitted in October 2022. Prosecutors argued that his failure to attend court without valid justification warranted his arrest, while the defence had sought to challenge the charge before arraignment—a move the court ruled as premature. 
The court subsequently ordered that he be arrested and produced for trial, adjourning the case to April 22 for arraignment. The development adds another layer to the ongoing leadership crisis within the PDP, where rival factions continue to contest control of the party amid broader political tensions ahead of future elections.
