\n\nHundreds of South Africans took to the streets of Durban in a protest against foreigners, with Nigerians among those specifically targeted amid rising anti-immigrant sentiment. Demonstrators, including members of political groups and the vigilante movement Operation Dudula, marched through the city chanting slogans and calling for stricter action against undocumented migrants, whom they accused of contributing to crime and unemployment. 
The protest turned tense as police intervened, firing teargas and rubber bullets to disperse the crowd after reports of harassment and looting. Some businesses were forced to shut down ahead of the march due to fears of violence, while a breakaway group of protesters reportedly caused disruptions, prompting a stronger security response. Political figures, including ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba, openly criticised the government’s immigration policies, insisting that unchecked migration was harming local communities. 
The demonstration reflects broader tensions in South Africa, where high unemployment—estimated at around 32 percent—has intensified frustrations over jobs and economic opportunities. Analysts note that such protests are part of a recurring pattern of xenophobic sentiment in the country, which has previously led to violence against foreign nationals, including Nigerians. The latest unrest highlights ongoing challenges around migration, economic inequality, and social cohesion, raising concerns about the safety of foreign communities.
