\n\nA fire outbreak at Terminal 1 of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos on Monday led to the diversion of at least three international flights, including services operated by British Airways, Lufthansa and Emirates, as emergency teams worked to extinguish the blaze and ensure passenger safety. The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed that the airport’s airspace was temporarily closed, disrupting departures and arrivals before it was later reopened once conditions were deemed safe.
FAAN said the fire is believed to have originated from the server room on the first floor of the old terminal — currently undergoing renovation and that all 14 individuals initially trapped by the incident were safely rescued with no fatalities reported. Six people sustained minor injuries and are in stable condition, while emergency responders continue to monitor and secure the affected facility as part of ongoing investigations into the cause of the outbreak.
